Location and directions - idyllic spot on the Seiser Alm in South Tyrol

As the ideal base for back country skiing and hikes in the Dolomites, the Mahlknechthütte is the perfect destination for an active summer or winter holiday in the Schlern region

A22 Bolzano/Bozen Nord exit. Take the main state road towards Brenner as far as Prato all’Isarco/Blumau. Here take the left-hand entrance to the tunnel and follow the road as far as Telves-Telfen/Castelrotto-Kastelruth. In Telfen, turn right at the crossroads and follow the main state road towards the Seiser Alm. Please stop after around 2 km at the roundabout to pick up a permit for your vehicle. Our visitors may drive onto the Alm at any time on their day of arrival and departure. For any other reason, the Seiser Alm road is closed to traffic between 10 am and 5 pm.

A22 Chiusa/Klausen exit. Take the main state road towards Bolzano as far as Ponte Gardena/Waidbruck. Here turn left over the bridge and follow the road to Telves-Telfen/Castelrotto-Kastelruth. In Telfen, leave the roundabout at the exit for Fiè/Völs, turn left immediately at the first crossroads and follow the main state road to the Seiser Alm. Please stop after around 2 km at the roundabout to pick up a permit for your vehicle.

Continuing by car In summer you can reach us by car on the panoramic road towards Saltria and then continue on to the Mahlknechthütte.

Arriving by train or bus The nearest railway station is located in Bolzano. There is a good bus connection from the station (every 30 minutes) to Siusi-Seis/Castelrotto-Kastelruth to the valley station of the Seiser Alm gondola. Take the gondola and enjoy the fantastic panoramic views in the process. Be it summer or winter, take the shuttle service to the Tirler car park and allow us to pick you up from there.

Hiking to the Mahlknechthütte In both summer and winter travellers without much luggage can reach the Mahlknechthütte along a broad hiking trail. (90 minutes).

In winter: Our car park is behind the bus stop in Saltria, 6 km from Compatsch.
The Mahlknecht-Hütte / Zallinger car park has been allocated for winter guests.
Shortly before your arrival, you will receive an e-mail so that you can provide us with your registration details and we can e-mail you a permit.

In summer:The car park is located directly at Mahlknecht Hut.
From Compatsch, continue to Saltria, go over the first bridge on the right of Hotel Floralpina, past Hotel Tirler and 3km further along the gravel road to Mahlknecht Hut. The forest road is marked with wooden signs.

Traffic regulations in the Sciliar / Catinaccio Nature Park:
ATTENTION: From May to October and from Christmas to Easter, there is a driving ban on all roads in the Alpe di Siusi nature reserve in South Tyrol.
During your stay at Mahlknecht Hut, you may only use your own car before 10am and after 5pm.
Arrival and departure are possible at any time. To obtain a vehicle permit for Mahlknecht Hut, please show your booking confirmation at the St. Valentin checkpoint.
